FAQs What To Expect From Counselling
Will I have to tell you everything in the first session?
No, not at all. Our first sessions will be about getting to know each other and building a safe space for you to examine deeper issues when you are ready.
“When you are ready” is a key component of therapy; I may gently encourage you to explore uncomfortable feelings however, my job is to keep you safe whilst doing so and will step away from things that are too painful until you are ready to try again.
How many sessions will I need?
Who knows! Counselling is not a linear process so it is difficult to say for definite however, we work to blocks of six, reassessing where you are at and where our sessions are going at each six or so.
Do sessions have to be on the same day and at the same time each week?
No, it is what works best for you. For example shift workers need flexibility as do people with shared childcare and those working unsociable hours….I am very happy to offer both fixed and flexible session times.
Can I do a mix of face to face and remote sessions?
Absolutely! All sessions are charged at the same rate as this offers flexibility. You may want to access f2f but need sessions at home during the holidays, or you may be injured and unable to travel; mixing delivery of sessions helps mitigate issues.
Are sessions completely confidential?
Yes, nothing is discussed outside of our therapy space with anyone; it is a completely safe space free of judgement. The only exception to confidentiality would be disclosure of criminal activities or safeguarding issues. This is discussed fully ahead of starting our sessions.
